Ok so last night was a surprise. You may be wondering why this post has the Mission: SPACE logo in it. Well, I was originally off yesterday. I ran some earns around Orlando and ended my afternoon at Epcot looking from Kimmie Sue to set up a meeting with her and to visit my friend Joe a work. Joe works as a Coordinator in Futureworld East (Spaceship Earth, Universe of Energy, Wonders of Life, Mission: SPACE and Test Track). Well, yesterday was the Extra Magic Hour Evening for Epcot and Mission: SPACE was short staffed I guess and I got talked in to working a seven hour shift at the attraction.
I wanted to do attractions when I applied to start on the college program so it was a blast. Since I am not fully trained on the attraction, I was limited to greeter and grouping positions. I still had a blast and it made me think about what my future at WDW might include if a role in Guest Relations was not to work out. I might consider a transfer to an attraction like Mission: SPACE or Soarin’ or even apply for opening crew for Expedition everest which is coming to Animal Kingdom in January. But, as much as it would be fun, Guest Relations would be my top choice and the direction I want to move.

It’s official! Last night, casting called my parents house in Minnesota and left a message for me about a full-time role. This morning, they called me back and I have officially accepted a transfer from Main Street West Merchandise (Emporium Complex) to Magic Kingdom Main Entrance Merchandise (Strollers, Station Break, Newsstand, and Package Pick-Up). I’ll admit, it wasn’t my number 1 choice but, it IS full-time and I’m actually looking forward to getting outside and a new experience. I officially start on March 13 depending on what I am scheduled. Yay, job security! I’m so excited 😛

Well, my last post about Black Friday was results from the midnight rush. Now, having worked until 4am this morning unloading bins of hangers, I can say I survived. It was a zoo but supprisingly not as bad as the previous night. Today, I have a 10 hour runner shift. I can’t wait. Anyways, I am off to the Magic Kingdom to grab some food before I go in to work at 5. It will be another late night. Oh well, I’ll survive.

Has it really been almost a week since I posted? Well, I have been busy with work and the two days off that I had this past week I used to catch up on things around the apartment. Last Tuesday though, I went to the My Disney Career workshop/job fair and was able to speak with several of the key people in merchandise as well as Lee Cockerell, the Executive VP for the Walt Disney World Company. I know have a clear idea for what I want with this company and am now working working with several of my managers to clean up my resume and ‘Disneyfy’ it so I can proceed to Leadership Casting Call sometime next year. LCC is the internal path to management positions at the company. Who would have thought I would go for retail but I love what I do here and have no intention on leaving so the only way to go is up from here. I’m on my way out to work for the evening so this will have to be all for now. Look for more updates later this week.

Well, before I talk about Hurricane Charley, I need to first say good luck and goodbye for now to all my college program friends that have left or are leaving. Good luck and best wishes. Quoting Mickey Mouse, “See you real soon!” Now on with the storm. Walt Disney World Resort faired very well in the storm. We had no catastrophic damage and suffered mostly from damaged signs and uprooted trees. Someone from WDW Magic posted pictures here. We faired very well compared to some cast members that last their entire home to the storm like many here in Florida. That being said, let me now turn to work since both are connected. As those of you may know based on my previous post, i was on Ride-Out crew at Wilderness Lodge on Friday night. I worked on Saturday and even got extended since park hours were increased to meet the demand. Surprisingly, It is said that 70% of all cast members showed up. I think that shows dedication after a storm. Things are returning more to normal at work as well. Park is now closing at 9pm and soon it will be 8 and 8:30 closes. Rock on! I was off on Sunday so I got my hair cut on Main Street USA like usual from Mical and then I enjoyed my day off. I am now working the next 9 days until I get another one. Got to love overtime! Well, time to get some dinner and may be get ready to go out. Talk with you later.

I am now back home after being released at 12:45 from work after arriving around 1pm yesterday. I was part of the ride-out crew at the Wilderness Lodge Resort for the storm. There is quite a bit of downed trees across property and closer to home, we have not only trees but downed street lamps, stop lights and signs. Currently, the parks are anticipated to open on Saturday at the regularly scheduled time of 9 a.m. That’s all for now. Bed time now.

So this morning I picked up a shift from EHH at Mission Space again. It was a short four hour one but the four hour shift included two new skills to add to my tool kit. 1) How to open a register and get the cash and 2) How to sell Squeeze-Breeze outside with no register. What is a Squeeze-Breeze you ask? It is a spray bottle with a fan that costs $17. Yep $17 and you too can spray yourself with water to cool down. So I now have two new skills I can use in the future. Also, for those don’t know, the Mission Space costume is simlar to a NASA flight suit so standing outside in the Florida heat for any amount of time is not so pleasent and I can’t evenuse the dang bottles we are selling to cool down. Oh well, it was only for an hour. I’m just glad that we don’t have an outdoors location on Main Street USA. Now that would be hot in those costumes.
