Happy Independence Day!

First off, happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans! I figured I hadn’t posted in a while so a post was due. Things have been good for me since my last trip in May. I know I travel a lot but, it’s what I enjoy doing. In May I did Disneyland for a weekend and I am now home until the end of August when I go to Minnesota and then London for a week.

Having a great holiday so far today. Started the morning off with completing my first crossing on Lucky’s Lake Swim and then hitting the gym to finish my workout. After that, it was off to Starbucks and then a great lunch catching up with my friends Chris and Nicky from Washington, DC.

Now, it’s just doing some things around the house before relaxing the rest of the day. Back to the office tomorrow but then back to the normal schedule. Not a whole lot more to report. Had a great birthday week last week. Spreading out various nights with friends was a nice bonus instead of doing one big party. Well, back to work around the house. Until next time.

For those that doubt it, here’s proof that I completed the 1k swim at 7:45 this morning:

Oh There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays

Well, it’s that time of year where everyone seems to be traveling, myself included. I have been fortunate enough to do some amazing trips over the last year and am feeling right at home here on the plane and at the airport. Surprisingly, the airport in Orlando wasn’t too busy this morning but I’m sure it will only get worse as the day goes on. Sitting on the plane now cruising to Minnesota and enjoying the free WiFi that is offered. I’m not complaining.

Work is going well the last few weeks as the parks are starting to pick up and get busier for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. I’ll be home in Minnesota until Monday enjoying the time with the family before returning back to do my part to help with the craziness. If anyone in Minneapolis area wants to meet up, let me know. I can try to squeeze it in. Just text me.

Back to the relaxing flight and a nap. No coffee this morning at the airport due to the long lines so dragging now. Family Christmas party tonight which will be fun. Safe travels to anyone else that is traveling this weekend.

Candlelight Processional

For those that know me, you know that for the last 5 years I have been a part of the Candlelight Processional at Epcot® here at the Walt Disney World® Resort. This is something that has been such a great experience for me and I have met some really great people because of it including some of those in the movie. Check out the video below from Disney Parks for a little more insight in to the show. Can anyone spot the person that looks like me in the video? Hard to say if it is me but cool none the less.

Thanksgiving and a new iMac

Wow, where do I start? Tis the season for being busy. Work is going well for me these days. We have just started one of the busy times for us at Ticketing with the start of the Cast Member Main Entrance Pass Distribution followed by Cast Complimentary Tickets. This morning I officially started the distribution season with Hong Kong Disneyland’s tickets and the team will be moving on to the domestic files later this week.

Thanksgiving was good around here as well. I was able to get away from the office and head to Naples to visit Grandma and Grandpa as well as my Cousins Lisa and Stuart and Aunt Cynthia. It really is relaxing to get away and just enjoy the great location down there. Thank you to Grandma and Grandpa for letting me come down to visit as much as you do!

One downside this Thanksgiving though was my PowerBook G4 deciding to stop working and leave me with a dead hard drive. So on Black Friday, I did my part to help with the economy and went out and got the new iMac I have been looking at for the past few months. Wow is this thing smoking fast compared to my old (almost 5 years old) PowerBook G4. Downside is that I had to buy the new computer a few weeks before I was planning on getting it. Oh well, I’m quite happy with the decision to upgrade.

Not much else to report. I’ll be busy with work for the next few weeks and then it is off to Minnetonka for Christmas. I can’t wait! If you are in Minnetonka December 19-25 and want to hang out, let me know.

Thanksgiving at the Beach

Well, I am relaxing on the beach here in Naples, FL working on a tan. Looking out int the Gulf of Mexico and a small pod if dolphins are playijng just off shore. So close that you could probably walk out to them.

I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving yesterday. I arrived down to Naples early Tuesday evening to join my grandparents, aunts, uncle and cousins for the holiday. It’s a quick visit though as I will be heading back home tonight to Orlando so I can go to the office in the morning, small sacrifice to take the holiday off. It will be nice and quiet and I can catch up on some work and print part of the Main Entrance Pass and United Way distributions.

Work is going well, as you see above, we have kicked off the distributions and the production of close to 500,000 tickets with in the next few weeks. Candlelight starts this weekend with my first performance this year next Wednesday, November 28 at the 6:45/8:15 shows. I can’t believe this will be my forth year singing!

Well, I’m off to enjoy my last few hours down here before heading home. Thanks to everyone who has been sending messages.

This message was sent from my T-Mobile BlackBerry wireless handheld. Kindly excuse any brevity, abbreviations or typos.

Waiting for Santa

Ok, so it just took me an hour to get back home. Something that usually takes 15 minutes. I guess I timed my drive home with the same time that Epcot closed. Oh well. So, I am back in Florida after a full yet enjoyable two days in Minnesota. I got a chance to see my friend Anna and then got the chance to see all my family, first at Grandpa and Grandma’s party on Friday night (Thank you again Grandpa and Grandma) and then over at mom and dad’s house before I hit the plane back to Florida. I also got my first chance in three years to celebrate Christmas with my family, even if it was a day or two early.

I think it was waiting at the airport in Minneapolis yesterday that I realized that this is going to be a busy week at work. For those that have never been to Walt Disney World the week of Christmas/New Years, it is busy. We close at capacity at least once each day. So, it was while waiting for my flight to board that I looked around and saw all these families with small kids and realized that they are all going to the same place, Walt Disney World and the Magic Kingdom. My sold out flight was all following me home to Orlando. This is going to be a fun week.

Well, it’s time to head to bed and wait for Santa Claus to come. I’ve gotten most of my gifts so far but I still have a few waiting under the tree till tomorrow morning. Off to go dream of a white christmas

I’ll Be Home For Christmas…

Well, I am clocked out for the day and at home packing the final gifts in to my bag. That’s right folks, I am off to the artic tundra of Minnesota for two nights and spending some time with the family for Christmas. I will be back on Sunday for all the rush in the parks but it will be nice to be home for the family Christmas Party after not being there for three years. Can’t wait. Time to hit the airport.

Family, New Role and Holiday Time

Well, it has been an exciting last week here in Orlando, FL. First, I had a nice visit with my Parents and Grandparents the other weekend with Mom and Dad coming in from MN and Grandma and Grandpa Swanson coming up from Naples, FL. It was nice to spend some time with the family and have some time off from work even if I was still in the parks with them. Had some great meals out and even enjoyed seeing a few of the segments being tapes from the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade that will be airing on Christmas Day including American Idol Finalists and Michael Bolton. Speaking of Christmas, thanks to Mom and Dad, I finally have a Christmas Tree. For the first time in two years I finally have my own tree with all the decorations on it complete with a monorail around the base. It really is feeling like the holidays finally.
Needless to say, the three days off was a blessing having been so busy at work and dealing with issues involved with my posting for a coordinator role here at the Walt Disney World Resort. Speaking of that coordinator role, I did finally get the role after getting all the stuff at casting sorted out. I will be staying on Main Street, USA for at the least, six more months before I am eligible to transfer again. This is the next step towards a full-time leadership role with the company and I look forward to more professional development opportunities that may surface with the new role including posting for a leadership position this spring.

Leaving work for a bit, last night I finally got to sing my first show this year for Candlelight. I did the late pair with Brian Dennehy as the narrator. I have to say, I really enjoyed his style after looking back at the past two years worth of readers I have sung with. I am scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday nights with Mareen McGovern and then shows with Neil Patrick Harris and Marlee Matlin later on in the month.

Other than the new role, there really isn’t much else to report. Hope everyone has a great weekend. I’ve been training all week and I can finally sleep in tomorrow. Yay!
