Welcome to Our Family

Well, I didn’t get a chance to really post much when I got in last night due to the time. For those that haven’t tuned in for a while, I have been working as a Seasonal Cast Member (CT) at the Emporium in the Magic Kingdom. After waiting a while, I have finally gotten a Full-Time (FT) role with the company and with it, a transfer to Main Entrance at Magic Kingdom where I will be working in Strollers, Newsstand, Station Break and Package-Pickup (in time). Yesterday (3/13) I had my one day of training and went through the review of registers (The Emporium had me in a support role and I hadn’t really been on a register since December), learning how to drive an ECV, clean and stack strollers, and be the information point for the front of the park. I know it isn’t the place most people would pick but, I think it will be fun. The management team so far and the Cast have been nothing short of welcoming and willing to help me every step of the way. For those that have seen ‘Brother Bear’, think of the song “Welcome” (Welcome to our family time. Welcome to our happy to be time. This is our festival, you know and best of all we’re here to share it all). I can’t wait to see where this takes me. I have never had a team that has welcomed me so much as I saw yesterday.

Today will be my first ‘real’ day on my own up there but I can’t wait. I know that I will miss the friends and family I have in the Emporium but I will be making a new set of friends and family up at Main Entrance and who knows, I may even be auditioning for a role in Guest Relations this summer. Until then, I look forward to spending the next part of my career at Main entrance Merchandise and kicking off the Happiest Homecoming celebrating 50 years of Disney Themeparks. Look for more information to come later about the Happiest Celebration on Earth. For all that come to the Magic Kingdom, I will be on evening shifts and as of now, I have a Thursday/Friday day-off schedule. I couldn’t be happier with where I work and what I do. Thanks to all those that have supported me this far. Hope to see you real soon!

Weekend Away

So this weekend I finally got away from Orlando for the first time since I went home in September. I headed south to St. Petersberg to stay with some college buddies that are still at Eckerd. Last night I got the chance to relax on campus and then a chance to sleep in this morning after being awaken last night to a smoke flair being set off in the form I was staying. Don’t miss that part of college life much.

Went up to International Plaza in Tampa with Pete and grabbed a bite to eat at Champs before going to the Apple Store and Abercrombie. We returned to campus to work on our computers as we used to do before he needed to get back to his homework. I then joined Steve and Emily for the showing of ‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou‘ at the Environmental Film Festival, which was one of the reasons I ended up coming down this weekend. This movie is one of the funniest I have seen in a while. Absolutely hysterical. Go see it when you get a chance.

Just relaxing in Steve’s dorm deciding how late I am going to stay or if I will crash here again instead of driving home. Well, that’s all for now.

This message was sent wirelessly via my BlackBerry device, so the reply will be short and may even include some words that are not spelled properly.

I’m Statused!

It’s official! Last night, casting called my parents house in Minnesota and left a message for me about a full-time role. This morning, they called me back and I have officially accepted a transfer from Main Street West Merchandise (Emporium Complex) to Magic Kingdom Main Entrance Merchandise (Strollers, Station Break, Newsstand, and Package Pick-Up). I’ll admit, it wasn’t my number 1 choice but, it IS full-time and I’m actually looking forward to getting outside and a new experience. I officially start on March 13 depending on what I am scheduled. Yay, job security! I’m so excited 😛

Mini Vacation

Well, I am now back home after a weekend at the Port Orleans Riverside resort with my Dad. It was a lot of fun. Friday, my friend Scott came up to visit with his parents and the five of us started our day at the Magic Kingdom before they went to Epcot and Dad and I enjoyed our day at the park. I got to see my favorite parade, Share a Dream Come True, and meet Peter Pan (again). before we headed over to Epcot to enjoy the evening and meet up with Scott and his family. Saturday, Dad and I went back to Epcot and then off to Disney-MGM Studios for Fantasmic. It really was a fun weekend and it was nice not having to work. I’m off to work now that Dad is at the airport. Check out the photos page for some of the photos dad took this weekend. I’m in the process of putting some more up over the next few days. Have a magical day and enjoy the Super Bowl.

One month ago

Well, it has been one month since I ended my Walt Disney World College Program. I am still at the Emporium on Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom as a seasonal (CT) Cast Member. I am waiting out a skill-code (transfer list) for a full-time roll in merchandise at MouseGear, Emporium, FutureWorld East, and Main Street East. Still waiting on it but, all sources are telling me I should know by March 1. So until then, I’ll be happy where I am and lucky that I am getting full-time hours.

I still see one of my roommates from the College Program from time to time and another is moving down in a few more days. It’s funny. I like where I am now (More Pay and Better Living Place) but, part of me wants to still be a CP just to live so close and enjoy the perks of being right there on property. Oh well, I need to head to bed since I work at 10. Just reflecting

Not Much New

This is the week to come to the parks! Today was soooooo slow. I can’t post the numbers but, it was way below what you would expect for the park numbers. Dad is coming in to town tomorrow for the weekend and Scott might be coming up for a day with his parents. It will be nice to see Scott after so long and also nice to spend time with Dad. I am still a CT at this point and Casting isn’t really giving out any answers as to when that might change. Well, not much else to report. JK is moving out in a few weeks so rent will be going up. Not fun but it is still cheeper than other places. Also, my bed should finally be here after all the mess. The first bed I ordered from IKEA was discontinued but they didn’t tell me that till now. With JK moving out, I cancelled that order and then upgraded my bed to a larger size now that I will have space. Anywho, I’m off for the night.

Finally a Day Off

Ok so I worked seven days last week but, I figured I would pick up the overtime while it was available to me. I am still waiting for that call from Casting about a full-time role so I have to live with about 30 something hours a week until then. So this week, I am taking both my days off. Sunday I relaxed at home and JK and I went to the mall and what not before I headed down to ‘Ohana again at the Poly for dinner with Mark and Kent to celebrate Mark’s birthday. Mark is a friend from Candlelight and works as a music teacher at Dr. Philips High School and as a VIP Tour Guide for Disney Special Activities. Worked at the crack of dawn on Monday and then ended up meeting Travis and Kirk for dinner at Alehouse. Now today, I just went over to Epcot to meet with a few managers at Mouse Gear about my resume and to see Travis. Now, I am just relaxing at home watching American Idol with my roommates. Well, that’s the update for now. I’m still getting used to not being on the College Program as all the new CPs are showing up but I love it still.

The Joys of Being CT

So as some of you know, I am currently statussed as a CT (casual temporary) cast member here at Walt Disney World. This means that I can be scheduled Full Time hours but I may not get scheduled either. Take next week for example. I was scheduled 42 hours but when the union got involved, I was rescheduled for a mere 30 hours instead. Can I just say I am glad there are shifts available for Extra Hours? So now I have 47 hours after picking up two extra shifts at Mouse Gear over at Epcot. I still love my job, I just hate the way the union dictates things.

Other than work, I am happily settling in here at my new apartment with JK, Norm and Anthony. It’s odd to have to actually commute to work now but it isn’t that far away. Anyways, I’m off to watch Return of the King. Catch you later.

Christmas Eve

Well, I know that this post will be posted on Christmas Day due to the time but, my Christmas Eve was almost as memorable here as it would have been at home. I worked at the Emporium this morning from 10:00 – 16:30 after getting an early release thirty minutes early so I could try and make it to Epcot to be a part of the choir tonight. Well, I made it to Epcot in time and was able to change and made it in to the cast tree for the Candlelight Processional thanks to my friend Mark who placed my name on the standby list earlier ion the day. So, instead of sitting at Grandma and Grandpa’s tonight, I sang two shows for several thousand guests at Epcot with Gary Sinise. How cool is that? And did I mention that I got to enjoy the fireworks too? After leaving Epcot, a few of us from Candlelight met up at Mark’s house and watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and just relaxed. Again, not family but great company. I work Christmas Day but, I don’t have to work until 18:45 in the evening. Lucky me. Anyways, hope everyone has a great night.

Candlelight Randomness

So last night I got to meet Edward James Olmos at Candlelight Processional. I made myself look like a fool though. I was getting a glass of water from the cooler and he was coming through thanking all the cast members who were singing and then he got to me while I was still with my back to him and was sorta upset that I didn’t realize he was there. I mean, I was getting water and not too many other narrators have come down the line to say hello. I guess all is fine though because he laughed when I said I was sorry and then shook his hand. Still not as bad as my roommate who forgot that Marlee Matlin was deaf when he started talking to her in her dressing room!
