Back to Work I go

Well, today I head back to work after a nice relaxing day off yesterday. I got the chance to sleep in and then met up with Andrew who was visiting from Hilton Head and Clare and Anne who were also off yesterday at the Magic Kingdom. Killed some time there before we seperated and went to get my haircut on Main Street USA again and then went home before the rain got too bad. Relaxed at home for a bit and thenw ent to visit Jonnie at Epcot and pick up a few DVDs at Downtown Disney before they went back in to the vault for 10 more years. Jonnie and I were going to get together after he got off work but he needed the extra sleep so I just made plans to hang out with Clare and Anne some more. Overall, it was a nice relaxing day.

Now I am just relaxing before I head in to work tonight at 18:00. I work E-Ride and then I am stocking so that means I am out at 03:00, yes folks that is 3am in the morning! So hope all of you have a good night sleep while I am working.

Finally a Day Off

Today was my first day off since the crazy holiday weekend. What did I do? I slept in of course and then Jonnie and I headed out for an afternoon at Typhoon Lagoon, or so we thought. Severe thunderstorms and a park evac before we got there changed that plan. Ended up chilling at Jonnie’s for a bit with his roommates and then we hit the American Adventure at Epcot. We then got to see ASIMO from Honda. ASIMO is visiting Epcot till Sunday and is the most advanced humanoid robot int he world. He can even walk up stairs and mimic human movement incluing dancing with John Travolta playing in avideo of Saturday Night Fever!

I’m off again tomorrow so Jonnie and I are getting up atthe crack of dawn to check out the Cast Connection and Property Control sale going on at the Magic Kingdom Cast Lot to see what sort of deals we can get on overstock and other items. Then, Matt, one of my roommates and I are going shopping for stuff to fix up the apratment now that our trouble roommate is gone. That’s really it for now. More updates to come as I have time.

Happy 4th of July!

Ok so I know that it says 5 July for the date. What can I say, I just got out of work! So what did I do today? I spent today with 62,000 (That isn’t a typo) of my close not so personal friends at the Magic Kingdom working. Missed the really awsome Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks show but I shall live. My feet ache and I still have to work tomorrow for 9 hours starting at 17:00 today. Way to go me! Now off to bed!

Nice relaxing day off

Thanks to all of you that sent me birthday greetings. I have been enjoying my day off today and had a great time on Friday as well. Now I am just chilling at home after an afternoon in the park visiting a friend from MN waiting for some of my Disney frineds to call and figure out if we are going to do anything tonight.

First REAL Day Off

Well, today was my first real day off where I wasn’t picking up any shifts. So what did I do on my day off? First, I slept in till 11 and then met up with my friend Jonnie to go get out haircuts at Main Street USA. Yes, I have my haircut at Disney too. It’s really a great deal and they even give cast members a discount. How many people can say they got their haircut at an old-fashioned barbershop with a Dapper Dan Quartet and Mickey Mouse? After the haircuts, it was off to the Disney-MGM Studios to track down our friend Josh on his second to last day of work. We spent his last day off on Thursday visiting the parks and hanging out since he is leaving on Monday morning. He is now done at Magic Kingdom but due to his height (6’9″) he is doing hours at the Disney-MGM Studios for Star Wars weekends where he is “friends with” Chewbaka. Unfortunately, there are two Chewies and I think the one we had our picture taken with twice was not Josh. Jonnie then left for work and I came back to the apartment to get some lunch and nap a bit. Then it was off to Epcot Cast Services to pick up my costume for my shift at Mission Space tomorrow. While at Epcot, I had dinner with JK and caught a glimpse of Jonnie at work. Now, I am just relaxing and waiting to find out if there are any plans for tonight.

Busy Week

Well, this week I am off on Saturday and Sunday but, I decided to sign up for some extra hours at Mission Space again this coming Sunday. It is hard to believe that I have already been working for two weeks so far. It seems like only yesterday that I started. Now I am seeing new college program and seasonal people coming in with their “earning my ears” tags on and I feel just like an old timer. For those that haven’t read my updated About Webby section, I work at the Emporium Complex on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Tonight is E-Ride night which is a special that resort guests can take advantage of. They pay an extra $12 and then get a wrist band that allwos them to stay in the park 3 additional hours to ride the rides. For those that are wondering why it is called E-Ride night, well, the idea of an E-Ride dates back to the start of Walt Disney World in 1971 when you had a ticket book and each ride was wroth a certain ticket. The smaller rides like Dumbo and Peter Pan might be worth say an A-Ticket but the bigger rides such as Sapce Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad were worth an E-Ticket which you only got a limited number. The first women astronaut Sally Ride even refrenced the idea of an E-Ride in an interview about gong ot space. Her exact quote was something along the lines of “That was just as good as any E-Ride attraction.”

Not much else new to report. I am just enjoying being here and meeting new people. Part of my enjoyment is seeing the magic that I create have an effect on the guests. I know that their experience and vacation can have jsut that extra touch of magic thanks to me.

New Roommate and a Day Off

So today we got a new person to replace the one roommate that moved in to a one-bedroom apartment here in Chatham Square. The new roommate is named Mathew and he hails from Colorado. As part of getting a new roommate, Price Management, the company that maintains the apartments for Disney, has sent a cleaning crew over and they are now turning our apartment upside down and cleaning it all. Well, I guess I have one less thing to do now. Work on Main Street USA has been a lot of work but at the same time rewarding. I have helped a lot of guests with not only merchandise but locating things to do, characters to meet and help them have a more enjoyable vacation. While I am technically off today but I am picking up some extra hours at Epcot at Mission: Space, one of the best rides ever in my mind. Well, off to Epcot.

One Shift Down

Well, last night was my first shift at my work location. For those that haven’t read my updated About Me page, I work at the Walt Disney World Resort in Merchandise at the Emporium on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom. Last night our trainer said it would be nice and slow. If slow means lines out the door then I am going to hate to see busy! Anyways, it was a fun time. I got a lot of expereience working with guests and the registers. I have another training shift tonight before being off on my own. I think this is going to be a great time here. I’m off to meet Andrew and some of his friends who are down from Disney’s Hilton Head Resort where they all work in Recreation for the summer. Catch you around.

Time Off

Well, I have completed my first week of training classes at the Walt Disney World Resort. I am now off until Tuesday when my on the job training at Main Street West begins. So far I am liking it. It will be a lot of work I am sure (I am in one of the busiest/largest shops on property). I have some good roommates that I get along with which is nice. I have also had the chance to hang out with some Eckerd College friends on the program as well. Rock on! Off to bed though.
