I’m a Disney Cast Member!

Well folks, I am now officially a Walt Disney World Cast Member! I moved in to Chatham Square and will begin all the fun training classes tomorrow for my role as a merchandise host at Main Street USA – West (The side with the Emporium) at the Magic Kingdom. Should be a blast. I met up with some other college program participants that I knew before I got here and went out to Pleasure Island (PI) for cast night last night. Fun times and there are some really cool shows there.

Today was more meetings and check in process and then I was off to pick up some groceries and the standard required all black shoes (got to love the outlet malls). Now I am just relaxing a little bit now that our AC is fixed and will probably meet up with my friend Laura from Eckerd College who works at Sea World. That’s all for now.

Calm before the Storm

Well, today I got in from work at 03:30 this morning. I took some overtime shifts this week to make up some extra cash for when I am working at Walt Disney. Last night happened to be the graduation party for St. Pete High. It was a fun time and brought back many fond memories of my graduation party at Camp Snoopy almost 4 years ago.

Just relaxing this morning until mom, dad, grandma and grandpa arrive from Minnesota and all the craziness of the weekend begins. Tonight is Baccalaureate followed by a BBQ/Cook-Out. Then tomorrow morning at 08:30, the procession will start and I will be on my way to the big airplane hanger tent that is in the middle of the soccer filed to receive my Bachelor of Arts degree. Exciting eh?

So while I wait for the family to arrive (less Tim of course), I am reading the Coronation Street updates from England and putting some more things in bags and boxes so i can load my car tomorrow before heading to Disney World on Sunday.

Eckerd Giver

Well, yesterday was the Senior Awards ceremony here at Eckerd College. I had a quick turn around after work and working out and then headed over to Fox Hall as requested in the memo I received from the Dean of Students and then walked out of the ceremony with the Eckerd Giver Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service to the campus and community. For those that are not aware, I have been very active on campus and have spearheaded programs such as the Lifeguard Training Program I completed a few weeks ago and the American Red Cross Club of Eckerd College. I have also been the donor chair for Florida Blood Services and have been responsible for the 4 blood drives each year here at Eckerd College for the last three years. It is an honor that I am glad to have received. I was accompanied by about 12 other students who have made similar contributions to the community with all 12 being recognized at the awards.

Weekend Update

So as of today, I have exactly two weeks until I move to Orlando and one day shy of two weeks till graduation. Only a few papers and projects stand in my way now! Today I am finishing up my ethics paper and was working on my car. Mike from work was nice enough to offer to help me take care of a rust spot that was growing just above my rear tire on the passenger side of my 11 year old Accord. Ended up cleaning it out and then placing some fiber glass down to fill in the hole itself.

Let me see what else is new. Friday night, the band Something Corporate. This band is a nice blend of alternative and punk. I have imported their CD in to iTunes thanks to Chris and have to say, it really is one of those CDs where you can listen to every track on it. So yea the concert was fun and gave me something to do after a long week. Last night was pretty dull with the exception of the Bullshit Ballet that is sort of a tradition at Eckerd. The Bullshit Ballet basically is a way for the students to joke about things on campus with the exception being that the ones performing are usually doing so after a few beers. Not as great as two years ago but at least something to do.

Well, it is time to get back to that paper. Feel free to comment on any pictures in my mobile sites or on any entry on this site.

Weekend Report

Well, as you can tell from the previous post, I was up before the sun this morning. Now I am back on campus doing some wash and about to start on some homework. So here is the recap from this weekend.

Friday: Andrew and I packed out bags and headed to Disney for the Inline Skate Marathon that was this weekend. We stayed at the new Pop Century Classic Resort. The resort is a value resort but still very nice and I would highly recommend it again. So anyways, back to our night. We just basically relaxed at the resort until we headed in to Celebration to see Norm perform in The Music Man with the Celebration Players, a community theater group. From there, we went back and hung out at his place for a little before turning in for the evening.

Saturday: Woke up and and headed to Publix to get some breakfast for this morning and some bottled water before going to the registration expo for the race. At the expo, we met Derek Parra, Olympic Gold Medalist from the 2002 Olympics in Men’s Speed Skating. Next was an afternoon in the parks thanks to a friend of Andrew’s with extra park tickets that I could use. We started off at magic Kingdom and finished at MK with a final ride on “It’s a Small World” which will be closing as of today for a year of rehab. After MK, it was off to a carb dinner at the Olive Garden with Mark and Reed and then back to Epcot to visit with JK at Mission Space. A pretty productive day personally.

So that’s the update from the rest of the weekend. Now time for homework.

It’s Here!

Well, first off, I want to thank Mom and Dad. With out you, I wouldn’t be writing about this. Now with that said, my new PowerBook arrived today. I think I have most of my data moved over to it from my iBook and all is up and running. All I have to say is WOW. This thing is blazing fast! This makes even my old G4 Tower seem slow (then again, the tower is 4 years old at this point and the iBook is 2.5 years). This is definitely something that I will have for years to come. Thank you again Mom and Dad.

Check out what I have going on on my computer by visiting websteth-PowerBook.

New Work Out Tune

BBC News

Well, as I was looking back this weekend on my trip to London, the theme to the BBC News was running in my head. So I downloaded it from the net and I have to say that when I was working out today, it was a great pace to work out to. It is nice and relaxing/soothing and keeps you at a good pace. Let me know what you think. Here is the 12 second sample:

EC-SAR Apologizes

So EC-SAR called me today and formally apologized for their failed pager system [READ: We didn’t know who was supposed to be on duty] that lead to them not responding on Friday Night. Way to go EC-SAR!

Wind, Tides, Sandbars and EC-SAR

So yesterday was an eventful day to say the least. Work and class were just the usual. The excitement started in the afternoon when we went out for a sail on my friend Will’s new Kelley 27. It was nice relaxing sail with Will, Jenn, Steve and Me. We headed in to Tampa Bay and got a great view of the sunset and it was nice and relaxing. Next, on the way back to port, with the shifting tides, we actually got pushed out of the channel and fudged the keel in to a sand bar therefore running us aground. Now at this point, it’s late and we paged EC-SAR, Eckerd College Search and Rescue, to come and tow us off, a free service they provide. The problem with this was, EC-SAR never responded to our pages. We sent a total of three pages to EC-SAR and all of them went unanswered. EC-SAR never responded or acknowleged the calls. Thanks to our friends Joe and Brett, they launched Joe’s boat and came to tow us off the sandbar and back to port. Time returned home: 04:15 am after waiting for EC-SAR since 12:30. Never were we in any danger but when you are paging a team that is supposed to help, it’s a pain in the rear. EC-SAR needs to look at their notification issues ASAP and in the meantime, thank you Joe and Brett.

The good news is that I at least got these nice pictures:

Looking forward yesterday as we come under the first span of the Sunshine Skyway.

Sunset looking back to port.

Now, I am off to get some needed sleep.
